The Dominican Literacy Center’s 5th Annual Spelling Bee will be held on Thursday, September 28, 6-9 p.m. at the Jam Handy in Detroit.
Co-hosted by the executive director of ARISE Detroit!, Luther Keith, and the host of Michigan Radio’s All Things Considered, Rebecca Kruth.
This fierce competition featuring some of the best adult spellers in the area also serves as a key fundraising activity for the Center.
All funds raised will provide financial resources for the Center in support of basic needs such as books, teaching materials, technology, community outreach, and staff.
Last year’s 1st place, 2nd place, and 3rd place winners, respectively, Word Nerds, Misspellica, and Church Ladies, with Kimberly Williams, executive director of Dominican Literacy Center (second from left); Josh Landon, FOX 2 News anchor and Spelling Bee emcee (rear center); and Maxie Jones, The Moth storyteller (far right) all helped put on a great show.
