A great place for adult learning in Detroit
Dominican Literacy Center Staff
Adults who want to learn basic reading, writing, spelling, math or basic computer come to The Dominican Literacy Center. One-to-one tutoring is offered. Students set goals: employment, college, reading improvement, English language, self-confidence or managing day to day life. Services are free; students pay for books.
Volunteer tutors attend an intensive workshop at the Dominican Literacy Center and are certified. They are matched with an adult learner whose interests and schedule are compatible. Tutoring is offered on site at the Dominican Literacy Center Monday through Thursday, 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. Tutors give two hours a week to students.
Besides tutoring, volunteers help with mailings, phone calls, flyer distribution, computer data entry, social events and publicity. Others tell an adult about the Center or offer to accompany a learner to the Center. Many support the Dominican Literacy Center financially or remember us in the future.
