STUDENT INFORMATION

Our Evaluation Process

Tutors file daily progress reports and lesson plans in a student file. Yearly progress reports are distributed in the spring and are retained in the student's portfolio.

The time that every student takes to complete the course of study varies depending on student level at entry, individual goals, regularity of attendance, and investment of effort. Advanced students are referred to GED and other programs.

The Requirements

At the Dominican Literacy Center, we expect our students observe a few requirements. First, students are asked to register in person. Assessments are given at this time to determine student's program of study. Students are expected to attend regularly and punctually for their scheduled sessions, and should remain with the program for at least three months. Notification is expected well in advance in case of an absent or tardy student.

The Cost

There is no cost for the tutoring sessions. A small yearly registration fee is suggested but not required. Students usually purchase only the books that they use.

Our Tutor Training

Tutors are fully trained and certified in the Laubach Method of adult education. This is an internationally acclaimed approach used in specifically teaching the adult learner.

The training workshops that each tutor attends are 12 hours in length and touch on many important issues specific to the adult learner. Tutors also have support from the experienced DLC staff, who are always willing to assist them.

Our Schedule

Each session lasts about two hours and can be scheduled between the hours of 8am-8pm Monday through Thursday.
