History

How it all began... historyIn August, 1989, the Dominican Literacy Center first opened its doors. The beginning held risk and uncertainty, as staff members canvassed the Detroit east side area with flyers announcing the official opening of the Center. The site began with three staff members and five tutors. However, by mid-September 1989, the increase in student requests was so great that additional tutors/volunteers were quickly sought from the community at large. Flash forward to 2015, you'll find that we are a staff of 10, with over 500 students, 250 volunteers, and a multitude of individuals that contribute to making the Dominican Literacy Center the thriving success that it is today!
