New Student Registration

Step 1: Getting Started If you want to learn to read, spell, and write, or do math, please call the Dominican Literacy Center at 313-267-1000 and register for the next New Student Orientation.   Step 2: New Student Orientation This two-hour program will introduce you to what we have to offer at the Dominican Literacy Center, and give you ideas on how to get the most out of your study time. If the Dominican Literacy Center seems to offer the right program for you, we will schedule you for an assessment.  New Student Orientations take place at the center every Wednesday 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Please bring the following items with you:
  • State I.D./Drivers license
  • Social Security Card
See our Calendar for specific Student Orientation dates.
Step 3: Assessment testing This assessment test will help determine your skill level and enable you to begin at the right place in reading, in English as a Second Language, or in math. Testing is expected to last between 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours.  It is encouraged that you eat a decent meal before the test.
Step 4: Track Class After your assessment test, you will be scheduled for a track class.  Track Class helps you to establish a program that meets your goals, and you will be allowed to enroll in classes that interest you while you wait to be paired with a tutor.  You can expect to be paired with a tutor after 4 hours of class/study time. This program is free. There is no cost to you!
